What are freckles?

Freckles are small brown dots on the skin. Unlike Westerners, most Asians are not born with freckles. Freckles can appear overtime due to sun exposure. They are caused by increased melanocyte production in the skin.

While freckles are mostly harmless, some people find them undesirable. In which case, there are safe and effective removal options.

What causes freckles?

Sun exposure
Ultraviolet rays from the sun can cause freckles to form or darken.

Genetics
While freckles can appear on everyone, those with fair skin tend to be more predisposed to freckles. Other genetic factors resultant diseases can also contribute to the formation of freckles.
