Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are usually either synthetic or naturally-derived substance used for directly injecting into the skin. These injected fillers act like soft tissues that help alleviate a variety of facial problem areas caused by ageing or other causes, with effects lasting from 6 months to 5 years, depending on the type of filler you opt for.
Unlike wrinkles resulting from the activation of facial muscles, facial lines and depressions that are present when the face is in a relax state can often be deep and static, giving one an aged and tired look. This is where fillers come in best to the rescue.
With fillers you can add volume to sunken cheek area or thin lips for a fuller, luscious look. Wrinkled lines and saggy skins around the eyes and forehead can similarly and literally be filled in and obliterated or alleviated, and less than ideal jawline reshaped and enhanced to perfection.
Types of Fillers
Juvederm Volume
This method involves the injection of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in high concentration in our body areas such as soft connective tissues, around our eyes, skins, and cartilage and joint areas.
The compound is excellent in improving skin texture by smoothening out uneven skins and folds such as deep smile lines running from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Also eliminated are frown lines between the eyebrows and worry lines that run across the forehead, and basically any other wrinkled lines you wish to make disappear.
Radiesse
In this case calcium hydroxylapatite is used, a mineral-like compound found naturally in our human bones. Biosynthetically produced, it contains no animal product, thus lowering the risk of an allergic reaction and negating the need for skin testing. Long used in dentistry and reconstructive surgery, this filler is very stable and has a well-established safety record – it does not migrate from where it was injected, and side effects are rare, resulting in a very natural look.
This procedure is excellent in treating moderate to severe creases and fold lines occurring around the face, as well as enhancing fullness of the cheeks and shaping of general facial contours.
Sculptra
Although synthetic in nature, the polylactic acid used in this procedure is nature’s little great helper. Also known as a stimulator, when injected into the face the compound acts to stimulate the body’s own production of collagen, the elixir substance that props up your skin in all its glory and suppleness and youthfulness. It is a non-toxic, biodegradable substance that has been used for nearly half a century as suture material.
Likewise in lifting sagging skin folds and crease lines, polylactic acid is also able to help shape and plump and mould weak spots such as thin lips or other misshapen facial features around jawlines and chins for that ideal look you desire.
Unlike other fillers, the results show up gradually as time is needed by the body to produce collagen in response to the injected polylactic acid, with four to six weeks needed to see the full effect. Also, periodic treatments at time intervals will be needed to achieve your desired results. The advantage is what you get is all mostly nature’s own work, semi-permanently, requiring only occasional touching up.
